It is with great honor and pleasure that we introduce our 2023 One Walk: Jersey City Healthcare Ambassador: Dr. Angela Verardo, a pediatric endocrinologist at the Children’s Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, part of the RWJBarnabas Health System.

The Healthcare Ambassador is an Everyday Hero who inspires those affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D) to be brave, be strong, and fight to turn Type One into Type None.

Dr. Verardo has been a champion for the JDRF One Walk, having participated with her colleagues for many years. She says, “As a Pediatric Endocrinologist, one of my hardest jobs is to meet you in the ER, PICU, or clinic to tell your family life altering news. While I’m not physically present for every high and low of diabetes, I see part of my roll as a cheerleader to help get you through the ups and downs of life with diabetes. I’ll be walking for the children of Newark with my family.”

At our TypeOneNation Summit last year, Dr. Verardo participated in a breakout discussion specifically addressing the need for a support system when you or a loved one are faced with a T1D diagnosis.

Dr. Verardo earned her BS in Biology from Northeastern University and her Doctor Medicine from New York Medical College. She was a Pediatric Endocrinology Fellow at Johns Hopkins University and an Assistant Professor at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center prior to joining RWJBarnabas Halth. She is also currently a Clinical Assistant Professor at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.
