October Greetings from Zoe Francis – Walk Family Team Leader

Hello JDRF Walkers!

Walk season is upon us! That’s right – October means it’s time for the Walk to Cure Diabetes, brought to you in four fabulous locations around the beautiful Bay Area.

The first Walk of our wonderful Walk season is this Sunday, Oct. 6 at Lover’s Point in Pacific Grove, followed the next Sunday by another Walk on Oct. 13 at the Oakland Zoo. Next up is our teen favorite – the Oct. 20 Walk at California’s Great America amusement park in Santa Clara. Rounding out our fabulous lineup is our final 2013 walk Oct. 27 at Fort Mason’s Great Meadow in San Francisco.

Click here for details and registration information about each Walk.

If you’ve already registered for your favorite Walk and are raising money, you rock! You are on top of your game and helping JDRF improve the lives of people with type 1 diabetes. If you haven’t registered, don’t fret. There’s plenty of time to sign up for a Walk and raise money to help find a cure for diabetes. Your Walk pages will stay active for several months after the Walks, so there’s plenty of time to reach your fundraising goal.

We ask all of our dedicated walkers to wear JDRF’s signature blue color to show solidarity for our cause – curing type 1 diabetes. The Oakland Zoo Walk has the theme Paradise is a Cure, so be sure to wear lots of fun attire with a tropical flair. Whichever Walk you choose, go all out on your outfits to show your enthusiasm with feather boas, wacky hats, goofy sunglasses or whatever fits your outrageous personality.

Walk day is a celebration of the T1D community coming together for a greater good. It’s the one time a year we can bond together, look T1D squarely in the eye and say, “Bring it on! We are stronger than you and we WILL take you down!” T1D is a drag, but Walk day is the one day a year when we can all celebrate the strength and tenacity it takes to successfully tackle T1D each and every day.

Once you’ve registered for a Walk, be sure to send a personal fundraising letter to each and everyone you know to get support for you and your Walk team. Be sure to include the link to your fundraising page so that people can make safe and secure online donations. Send at least a couple of gentle reminders to ensure a steady flow of donations to reach your goal.

Let’s get together at the Walks for a grand celebration in support of each other and our desire to beat type 1 diabetes. Put on your sneakers and walk!
