sel·fie/selfē/ noun (plural selfies)

  • a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website: “I am posting a selfie on my instagram and twitter accounts, and tagging @JDRFBayArea with #T1Selfie to raise awareness on National T1Day on November 1.”

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month and November 1 is National T1Day. We know that social media will play an important role in raising awareness. So, JDRF Bay Area is excited to announce our newest social media neighborhood, Instagram! The Instagram community might not be new to you—perhaps you’re already there—so it will be that much easier for you to find us. Follow us at @JDRFBayArea.

On November 1, National T1Day, we want to see your T1Selfies. Get creative! T1Selfies are not just self portraits of your winning smiles – but we want to see those too! Show us your lunch or carb counting method, document your bolus, whatever you think exhibits what life with T1D is really like. And, at the end of the month, we will create a collage of your T1Selfies. So if you post a T1Selfie you want us to see, make sure to tag @JDRFBayArea with #T1Selfie.

Did you know that every second, Instagram users perform 575 likes and leave 81 comments? We like you, and we hope you like us, so we want to show you! By being on Instagram, we know we will get to know you better! You work hard each and every day, experience highs and lows; some days are better than others, and at the end of the day, we want to see what you are going through, so we can raise better awareness. Can’t wait to see your T1Selfies!
