JDRF One Walk Spotlight – PwC for Addy

By Scott Daily, JDRF One Walk, Silicon Valley, Committee Member

PwC supports JDRF through the teams their employees create. PwC is not in the healthcare business and is generally focused on giving campaigns that focus on youth education. That doesn’t stop PwC from supporting organizations that employees are passionate about such as JDRF. It just takes an employee to create a team and make the ask. Sarah Beelaard was shocked how much support she received and the number of people who sent positive messages and support. Supported employees, are happy employees.

pwcSarah supports the JDRF One Walk to directly support Addy, her 5 year daughter who was diagnosed at the age of 2. It is a family effort and the hope is one day Addy can live without a pump, and constant monitoring that is required. Sarah believes JDRF directly impacts future technology improvements and eventually a cure. Sarah’s twin sister Emily Ellis also works at PwC and helps raise money for the Walk.

For Sarah, participating in the JDRF One Walk has created additional personal connections and teamwork within the Company. We regularly work in teams and spend time together, but working together on towards a cause that employees our passionate about builds long lasting relationships and better teams. PwC is an organization that regularly focuses on giving back and encourages employees to give towards organizations they are passionate about which builds a better community.

It is important for Sarah to fundraise for the Walk because it is important to continue to support an organization which directly funds research for a cure. Addy is so young we are hopeful that someday she can live free of insulin and live a normal kid life.
