November is National Diabetes Awareness Month

Diabetes Doesn’t Discriminate

Diabetes can affect anyone at any time of life.  It is a 24/7 disease that affects individuals and their entire families.  It impacts every aspect of one’s day and its potential complications are daunting:

Heart Disease
High Blood Pressure
Stroke
Peripheral Arterial Disease
Ketoacidosis
Eye Complications (Retinopathy)
Foot Complications (Neuropathy)
Kidney Disease(Nephropathy)
Non-Traumatic Amputation
Hearing Loss
Skin Complications
Hypoglycemia
Hyperglycemia
Gastroparesis

In addition to November being National Diabetes Awareness Month(NDAM), Nov 1st is T1D Day and Nov 14 is World Diabetes Day, commemorating the birth of Frederick Banting, the discoverer of insulin.  Insulin is not a cure, but a means of survival until a cure is found.

Overwhelmed?  We are a community of volunteers here to help.  We sponsor outreach and educational events.  We struggle with diabetes ourselves or with our friends and family. We work tirelessly  to promote funding for diabetes research.  WE ARE JDRF.
