Superhero Supporter of the Month: Walk Team “Diabuddies”

in ,

JDRF Greater Western Carolinas would like to highlight our Superhero Supporter for the month of March, Walk Team “Diabuddies”. Diabuddies is a Charlotte Walk Team that was formed from a student club at Providence Day School created to educate and raise awareness of type 1 diabetes (T1D).  Founded by Nick Brannan, diagnosed at age 5, club members consist of other students with type 1 diabetes, friends and supporters. Last year, the Diabuddies set a goal of raising $6,000 for the One Walk, and surpassed that goal by raising close to $7,000! We love how these students decided to get their school involved and wanted to thank them for their support. We asked the Diabuddies team some questions below to get to know their motivation for supporting JDRF and the T1D Community.

Who is your T1D connection?

All the 3 Diabuddies leaders have type 1 diabetes and are supported by our fellow classmates at Providence Day.

How long have you been involved with JDRF?

Diabuddies has been involved with JDRF for about two years.

How do you support JDRF?

We support JDRF by raising money for the One Walk to drive research and advancements forward. We are also all three JDRF Youth Ambassadors that get to speak at events and educate others about type 1 diabetes.

What inspires you about JDRF’s work?

The fight for a cure to end type 1 diabetes is inspiring to us.

What message would you give to others who are thinking about supporting  JDRF’s mission?

“Around the world people are living with type 1 diabetes and we are determined to help raise money to get closer to finding a cure. We want to make more people aware of what those living with T1D go through on a day to day basis.”

Thank you so much to Walk Team Diabuddies and Providence Day School for their dedication and support to JDRF and helping us educate and inform others about type 1 diabetes!

Please join us in thanking Diabuddies by attending the JDRF One Walk at Carowinds coming up on Saturday, April 25.
