Hurricane Ian Information and Resources

in

Your JDRF family is holding you close in thoughts this week as you prepare to face Hurricane Ian.  JDRF and other leading diabetes organizations have joined forces through the Diabetes Disaster Response Coalition (DDRC) to ensure that people with diabetes have the support, insulin, and supplies they need in advance of a major storm.

  • Stay Updated: Visit Diabetes Disaster Response and DDRC’s Facebook page with information on how to access medical support, storm status, shelters, and open pharmacies during time of disaster.

  • Need Help: Call 1-800-DIABETES (800-342-2383) If you need help navigating diabetes care during the storm, please call us. Representatives are regularly updated with information on how to access medical support, storm status, shelters, pharmacies and more for anyone affected by the storm. Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET.

  • Health Care Providers: During a disaster, call our emergency diabetes supply hotline 314-INSULIN (314-467-8546) if you know of diabetes supply shortages in your community (i.e., shelter, community center). The hotline is for health care providers only.

We will also be communicating information provided from DDRC on our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram). For more information on how to prepare for a hurricane with T1D, visit our blog: https://www.jdrf.org/northernflorida/2022/07/21/preparing-for-a-hurricane-with-t1d/

In light of the storm, we have made the decision to cancel the following events, and reschedule if we can at a later time:

  • 9/28: Polk County Support Group

  • 9/29: Adult T1D meet up in Tampa

  • 9/30: Jacksonville Coffee Meet Up

Please stay calm and safe throughout this storm!
