The Tradition Continues: South Sound OneWalk

One Walk is a historic flagship fundraising event for JDRF, with the first walk taking place in 1992. Since then JDRF Walks have raised more than $1 billion for type 1 Diabetes, with more than 900,000 participants nationwide. It’s through this community event that families and individuals with T1D can walk for a cause. One might be familiar with the paper shoe hanging in local businesses, a signature piece of collateral for JDRF Walks.

South Sound One Walk is equally as historic in the South Sound. Each year JDRF works alongside the South Sound local community to raise money for type 1 diabetes. For years the event has taken place at Cheney Stadium with over 2,000 participants. The course ran through the stadium twice and through the tunnel north of 19th. While locations may have changed, the support remains consistent. Through the years we have had loyal partners, one of them being our presenting sponsor, DaVita. With 23 years of commitment, DaVita has been helping JDRF find a cure.

Other loyal partners being our teams, much like Jake’s Crew and Megan’s Team, dedicating their time and effort to fundraise within their community among their family and friends. Our family teams truly embody the spirit of JDRF, with many of our teams having a direct tie to T1D.

As 2019 ramps up, so does our South Sound Walk. This year it will be taking place on May 4th at Chambers Creek. This will be our second year at this scenic location, which was a huge hit amongst our veterans, new walkers and our dog lovers! We are also preparing for a Walk Kick Off/Family Fun Event, taking place on March 2nd at Tower Lanes in Tacoma. JDRF wants to encourage all families in South Sound to come out to this free fun kickoff, as it serves as a great time to network, meet families who also know the uphill battles of living with T1D and most importantly, to have fun with friends and family in the local community.

We simply can’t wait for May 4th! Another year in the books for our South Sound One Walk, and so the tradition continues. To learn more about the walk please visit the South Sound OneWalk page.

To join JDRF at the FREE Walk Kick Off/Family Fun event on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Tower Lanes Entertainment please RSVP.
