Game Over, T1D! JDRF Fundraiser Aims to Raise $75,000 for Type 1 Diabetes Research

Event partners include X Rocker, Limited Run Games, and Find the Cure Game Jam

SAN FRANCISCO – August 12, 2021 – Whether you like to stream games, play games, or make games, the Game Over, T1D! fundraiser has something for everyone! Money raised during this 10-day event will benefit JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, whose mission is to improve lives by accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications.

From August 13–22, members of the JDRF Game2Give community will hold charity streams on Twitch with a goal of raising $75,000 on the Tiltify fundraising platform. To join the charity stream effort and be eligible for exclusive prizes, simply register a campaign on the Game Over, T1D Tiltify page and start streaming.

Two companies with T1D connections within their senior leadership, X Rocker and Limited Run Games, are donating prizes to the event:

  • X Rocker will award a BattleBunk bed/desk combo to the top Twitch fundraiser and a Cosmos Gaming Bed with LED Lighting to the winner of the Game Over, T1D! Giveaway, as well as several gaming chairs and headsets to be awarded to viewers of charity streams during the event. “Every year we look forward to getting involved with JDRF Game2Give’s events. T1D is personal and it affects millions of people and how they live their lives each and every day,” says Robert McNae, X Rocker’s CEO. “Supporting JDRF is an impactful way that our team at X Rocker can get involved in the community, spread awareness, and help in the fight to find a cure.”
  • Limited Run’s contribution includes a Celeste Collector’s Edition for Nintendo Switch as a prize in the Game Over, T1D! Giveaway, along with other rare, sold-out games to be given out during charity streams throughout the event. The company will hold their own charity stream on their Twitch channel on Friday, August 20, with additional prizes. “I’ve been a Type 1 diabetic since I was 15, and I’m honored to be able to support the JDRF Game2Give initiative along with my company,” says Limited Run Games co-founder Josh Fairhurst.

More details about these giveaways will be shared on the JDRF Game2Give, X Rocker, and Limited Run Games Twitter feeds with the hashtag #GameOverT1D.

Game Asset Bundle, a collective of independent game creators that has raised over $70k for JDRF to date, has organized the Find the Cure Game Jam to run concurrently with the Game Over, T1D! fundraiser. What is the cure? That’s up to you! Get creative with the theme and work it into your gameplay, presentation, or story. Game Asset Bundle has also teamed up with Humble Bundle on the Find the Cure software bundle, consisting of 50+ asset packs for independent game developers with a portion of proceeds going to JDRF.

About Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. It occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, called beta cells. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. There is nothing you can do to prevent T1D, and—at present—nothing you can do to get rid of it.

About JDRF

JDRF’s mission is to improve lives today and tomorrow by accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications. To accomplish this, JDRF has invested more than $2.2 billion in research funding since our inception. We are an organization built on a grassroots model of people connecting in their local communities, collaborating regionally for efficiency and broader fundraising impact, and uniting on a national stage to pool resources, passion, and energy. We collaborate with academic institutions, policymakers, and corporate and industry partners to develop and deliver a pipeline of innovative therapies to people living with T1D. Our staff and volunteers throughout the United States and our six international affiliates are dedicated to advocacy, community engagement and our vision of a world without T1D.
