JDRF Southwest Ohio is excited to announce that we will hold our 2015 TypeOneNation Ohio Summit, on November 1 at the Sharonville Convention Center. Summit includes:
A full day of diabetes educational, networking and inspirational sessions
A Kid Camp for children ages 5-12; Teen Central for ages 13-17 and breakout sessions designed specifically for teens living with T1D.
Programming developed by leading scientists and medical experts

Agenda

  • Session 1: Healthy Living Learn tips and tricks for living healthy with T1D. Topics include meal and snack planning, nutrition, balancing T1D with celiac disease, carb counting, and maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle with diabetes. Presenter: Betty Hollstegge
    Session 2: High Impact T1D Elite athletes from Team Novo Nordisk, including a cyclist and tri-athlete, will share their inspirational stories about persevering with T1D without breaking a sweat. Presenters: Chrysa Malosh & Ryan Nichols
    Session 3: Mission Message
    Get inspired and hear about the latest advances in JDRF-funded research and how JDRF is making a difference in transforming the research landscape and accelerating the pace to curing, treating and preventing T1D. Presenter: Carol Oxenreiter
    Session 4: Navigating Insurance
    Dealing with health insurance can be challenging for anyone, especially if youā€™re dealing with T1D. This session will provide valuable advice and insight about to navigate insurance. Presenter: Dr. Donald Wharton & Mike Groh
    Session 5: Womenā€™s Health
    From adolescence and puberty, through pregnancy and menopause, living with T1D can present special challenges for women. This session provides advice and education for women of all ages. Presenters: Dr. Sarah Corathers, Jessica Gahl & Dr. Nicole Sheanon
  • Session 1: Know Your Rights* Have you ever felt discriminated against because of T1D? Learn more about your rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act related to the areas of education, travel and employment. Presenters: Tom Webb,Ā Jamie Gindele & Carla Leader
    Session 2: Make a Difference Becoming a diabetes advocate can be a great way to make a real impact. Learn about political advocacy, diabetes blogging, support group creation, and JDRF volunteer opportunities. Presenters: Nick Wagner, Tracy Huebner & Marianne Dressman
    Session 3: Someone I Love has T1D This session is geared toward friends and family (other than parents) of a T1D. Table discussions, broken out by affiliation, will cover topics specific to each group: siblings, grandparents, spouses, friends and children of T1Dā€™s. Presenters: Mackenzie Bart, Logan Stone, Dr. Mike Heile & Jayna Stenger Ā 
    Session 4: Sugar Linings: Bright Side of T1D Miss Idaho 2014 Sierra Sandison will share her inspirational story of competing for Miss America with T1D and bringing awareness to a national audience. Based on her new book, Sierra will provide advice about finding the positives of living with T1D. Presenter: Sierra Sandison
    Session 5: Type One to Type None Hear directly from current and former JDRF-funded researchers about their work and its impact on understanding, curing and preventing T1D. Presenters: Dr. Jim Wells & Dr. Carmella Molina Evans
  • Session 1: Early Adulthood with T1D This session covers topics specific to T1D teens and young adults (ages 13-22) including dating, diabetes in the classroom, dealing with hormones, and social life issues. Presenters: Hadley George, Dr. Mike Heile, Sierra Sandison & Ainsley Wagenseller

    Session 5: T1D Tips and Tricks Even if youā€™ve lived with diabetes for many years, there are always new tips and tricks to be learned. Hear from a panel of experienced T1Dā€™s, and also share your own creative ideas, in this informative session. Presenters: Kate Eyre, Mark Kacher, & Susan Mustian
  • Session 1: Raising a T1D Child Parenting a child is challenging enough, but adding T1D to the mix can make things much more difficult. Hear from a panel of experienced parents who will share their stories and perspectives about raising a T1D child. Presenters: Steve Oā€™Bryan, Kate Devine & Jon Faulkner

Kid Camp

Kid Camp is designed for children ages 5-12 and provides supervised care, structured age-appropriate activities, and special visits by our T1D celebrities. Kid Camp will be open from 9:00 to 12:00 and again from 1:30 to 5:00 pm. We recommend that all children under the age of 13 attend Kid Camp in lieu of the breakout sessions. Kids Camp is open to children without T1D.
Teen Central
While teens are welcome to attend any of the breakout sessions, Teen Central provides an informal environment for teens ages 13-17 to make new friends with others affected by T1D. Activities include a photo booth, video games, and others. Our celebrities will also be stopping by Teen Central to say hello.
