Executive Director and President’s Message

We are coming off of a wonderful JDRF Houston One Walk event presented by Lexicon Pharmaceuticals at NRG Park. With all that our community has overcome during the past few months, we were overwhelmed with the response from our families and corporate teams who joined us on a blustery and cold morning. An estimated crowd of at least 5,000 participants came out to support, celebrate and recognize our incredible community. We are now only a few days away from the culmination of our Walk season with the Woodlands One Walk scheduled for this Saturday, November 11, again presented by our wonderful partner at Lexicon Pharmaceuticals. If you couldnā€™t join us at NRG, come out to Lone Star College Montgomery and help us walk to cure T1D.

November is off to a great start with the Astros bringing home a World Championship ā€“ Go Astros! It also brings us into National Diabetes Awareness Month, a time to build awareness of T1D, its symptoms, complications and the wonderful progress weā€™re making with its management and our path toward prevention and a cure. Youā€™ll see much in the way of communications through social media on our JDRF Houston Facebook page, through e-blasts and are working on local media attention here in the Houston Gulf Coast region. We encourage you to share these articles and posts throughout your networks, which helps us reach so many more people.

While Harvey brought about its challenges we are encouraged with the progress weā€™re making locally as we begin to say good-bye to 2017 and welcome in another year. For all that you have done to help our community and our JDRF chapter, we are so grateful.

Have a blessed and happy Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,
