Fund A Cure Family

We are the Cerny family (Chris, Rose, Ruth, Marie, Logan, and Joanna) and we are so grateful to be this year’s JDRF Gala Spotlight Family. Ruth (diagnosed 2016), Marie (diagnosed 2020), and Logan (diagnosed 2022) live every day with the chronic disease of Type 1 Diabetes. From pump changes, to low blood sugars, to constant beeping, their lives have been completely changed by this disease. Through patience and prayer we live our lives as “normal” as possible. I mean, is anyone actually normal anyways?! 

We ask that you consider donating to JDRF for our team and our fight. So much of JDRFs research has advanced the things that help these kids daily manage what no kid should have to.

Dr. Pam Carmain

Promise Ball Honoree

Pam’s collaboration with JDRF Houston began with her son, Grant’s, diagnosis with type 1 diabetes (T1D) sixteen years ago, at the age of nine. As a physician at Texas Children’s Hospital, Pam cared for children with T1D during residency and in her medical practice. However, managing this complex disease in her own child brought the realization that other families lacked the connections and resources available to her.

Pam contacted JDRF and asked how her family could get involved to meet and support other T1D families. Pam served in several leadership positions for JDRF, including the Executive Board, the Advisory Board and as the Research Information Volunteer. Grant and his younger sister, Kate, volunteered for One Walk and Grant served as a Delegate to JDRF Children’s Congress in Washington D.C. Additionally, the Carmain Family has made personal financial donations to JDRF.

Now a young adult, Grant manages T1D with a closed loop artificial pancreas – technology spearheaded by JDRF research and funding. The Carmain Family is deeply moved by the strength of their T1D community provided by JDRF. Their hope for improved T1D treatments and a cure for type 1 diabetes comes from JDRF funded research.

On being celebrated by JDRF, Pam said, “I am humbled that JDRF has selected me to serve as the honoree for the 2024 Promise Ball. JDRF is an organization our family is proud to support, and we invite you all to join us by investing in JDRF’s lifechanging mission by coming to the Gala and making a Fund a Cure donation.”

Rosalyn & Barry Margolis

Meredith & Fielding Cocke Visionary Award Recipients

Rosalyn and Barry have been among our longest, most generous and most active supporters since the early days of our JDRF Chapter. Each has served on our board of directors and numerous event committees. They have been invaluable advisors to JDRF planning and growth. Rosalyn has been a Type 1 Diabetic for 42 years. She has been proactive in her care and has stayed in the forefront of diabetic technological treatments.

Rosalyn and Barry received JDRF’s Living and Giving Award at the very first Promise Ball. We are now very proud to honor them with the Meredith & Fielding Cocke Visionary Award at this year’s Promise Ball.
