JDRF President and CEO Dr. Aaron Kowalski Traverses Virginia
JDRF’s President and CEO, Dr. Aaron Kowalski, invested significant time and energy travelling across Virginia in January, meeting with our type 1 diabetes communities and sharing their mission impact. Aaron provided a research update in Virginia Beach, Richmond, Charlottesville, and Roanoke where standing-room only crowds turned out to learn more.
Aaron spoke to incredible advances we saw in 2019, from our ability to delay T1D by 2 years, to a $950 million investment toward cures by Vertex, to the new Control-IQ closed loop artificial pancreas system just FDA-approved and on the market, to our work advocating for greater choice, access, and affordability for our T1D community.
Dr. Kowalski also spoke to amazing things on the research horizon, amazing things that are happening because of people like you and your commitment to keep our T1D community healthy and happy until we can walk away through a variety of potential cures.

Aaron, a 15-year JDRF veteran and previous JDRF Chief Mission Officer until his promotion to President and CEO in April 2019, brings to this critical role a track record of leading initiatives and forging partnerships that are providing new life-changing treatment options and expanded access to help people with T1D stay healthy until we have a cure. A highly respected thought leader in the diabetes scientific and clinical community he also is a talented and polished executive who brings to the CEO position a unique combination of management, leadership and people skills, and passionate and trusted voice advocating for the T1D community.
Dr. Kowalski is an internationally recognized expert in the area of diabetes technologies and has been a leader of the JDRF Artificial Pancreas Project, a multi-million dollarmillion-dollar initiative that began in 2006 to accelerate the progress toward automated insulin-delivery systems. His ability to translate science into easily understandable concepts has made him a voice for diabetes research in the popular media, appearing on The Martha Stewart Show, dLife, Fox Business and NPR, among others.
