Meet the JDRF Western Wisconsin Chapter Children’s Congress Delegate

in ,

The JDRF Western Wisconsin Chapter would like to announce our delegate at the 2017 Children’s Congress will be Lili!

Every two years, more than 150 children living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) gather in Washington, D.C., to meet face-to-face with some of the top decision-makers in the U.S. government. The children, ages 4 to 17, represent all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The delegates in JDRF’s Children’s Congress enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help Members of Congress understand what life with T1D is like and why research to fund life-changing therapies until a cure can be found is so critical. They speak up on behalf of the millions of people living with T1D and the families and friends who love them.

Lili was diagnosed with T1D when she was five years old. While she doesn’t let T1D get in the way of the things she loves to do, like playing soccer and basketball, it does bring its challenges. Lili says, “Unfortunately, I still have bad days when my blood sugar is too high or too low.”

Lili is a huge part of the JDRF One Walk in Madison. Last year, ‘Team Lili’ was the top earning family team at the JDRF Western Wisconsin Chapter! She is also active with JDRF Advocacy, receiving proclamations from her mayor and governor for World Diabetes Day.

“Diabetes can be a really scary disease. That’s why finding a cure is important. I hope someday there will be a real cure for me and everybody with diabetes.” Congratulations, Lili!
