Rider Feature – Clare Thurber

in ,

My family has been involved with JDRF for 20+ years.  We started out doing the walk after my older brother Tim was diagnosed with T1D and continued participating in the walks for many years after my T1D diagnosis almost 16 years ago. My mom did her first ride in LaCrosse to check out the ride program and had a wonderful experience! The following year I joined her and this year is our 9th ride season! The most rewarding part of Ride Day/Weekend is celebrating all the hard work that has been put in training and fundraising. Also, spending time in beautiful locations across the country with hundreds of people who understand life with T1D. It’s a weekend I look forward to each year!

The coaches and fellow riders help me feel prepared each year. Everyone is there to help you reach your goal for the ride. Whether its just a few miles or a full century, someone is always there to encourage you and lend a hand! The chapter staff as well  is always so supportive, willing to help with fundraising ideas or just there for you of you need anything at all. You are never alone! The Ride to Cure Diabetes program is a wonderful sense of community that is filled with so many kind and generous people. You will be SO glad you joined!
