Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing stories of riders from our team and why they ride! Here’s Sarah’s story:

Provide a short intro of yourself, T1D journey and connection to JDRF.

I am Sarah Meidl.  My daughter, Meredith, was diagnosed with T1D when she was 2 years old.  That was in 2008.  I have been involved with JDRF since about a week after her diagnosis when we received our Bag of Hope.

Why did you first decide to participate in Ride?

I first signed up for the ride because I wanted to do something that I never thought I’d be able to do.  And I wanted to challenge myself with fundraising goals.

What is the most rewarding aspect of participating in the Ride?

The most rewarding aspect of riding is meeting the other incredible people who ride.  Each one has a unique story and is inspiring. And everyone who wears a JDRF Ride Jersey is helping to cure my daughter.

What helps you feel prepared for the Ride?

Training, training, training.  However, even after several successful rides, I still don’t feel ready on Ride Day at the Start Line. Every Ride brings new challenges and rewards.

As we go back to in-person events, what are some of your highlights throughout Ride weekend that you are looking forward to? 

Seeing all of the amazing riders from across the county and being together for one unified cause.

Why would you encourage others to join the Ride to Cure Diabetes?

Because being part of something that is bigger than you is absolutely amazing!!!  And, no matter how far you decide to ride, you will be successful.
