Anna, age 13

Meet Anna! Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) this past January, she has been adjusting to her new normal with a few more finger pricks and pokes. Participating in her first Beat the Bridge in May 2019 alongside team DiaBeatThis she embraced JDRF’s fight for a cure for T1D. In Anna’s words “Beat the Bridge means hope for me and for others living with T1D. Hope that there will be a cure in the future. Funds raised from Beat the Bridge help fund cutting-edge research. Without research and studies there won’t be a cure.” As an ambassador, she’s excited to educate more people about T1D and what living with T1D means. With insulin and T1D by her side, Anna keeps up her active lifestyle participating in ultimate frisbee, hiking, and competitive ice skating.

Mabel, age 12

Introducing Beat the Bridge Ambassador, Mabel! Mabel’s life changed drastically at age four when she was diagnosed with T1D after being rushed to the hospital due to the life-threatening complications she was experiencing. Just two short months after being diagnosed, Mabel walked in her first Beat the Bridge. Her family has been participating for 8 years now and describes the event as “an inspirational day in which there really is hope to beating this disease!” On any given day, you can find Mabel participating in sports – whether its soccer, basketball, softball, or volleyball, or performing in musical theater and choir.

Zane, age 11

Say hello to Zane! Living with T1D since age three, Zane can’t wait to show the community how diabetes can’t stop him! “I want to show people that I can do anything they can do, I just have a couple extra steps than them” shared Zane in reference to his constant blood sugar checks and insulin dosing. He has been participating in Beat the Bridge for many years and has been involved with other JDRF programs as well. A rockstar in the T1D community, Zane has raised more than $35K for JDRF to further our mission to find a cure. Zane is an avid soccer player, playing on a local premier team, and he’s a huge fan of the Sounders, especially T1D soccer star, Jordan Morris!

Lucy, age 11

Give a warm welcome to Beat the Bridge Ambassador, Lucy! No stranger to Beat the Bridge, she’s been participating for five years, leading the charge with top fundraising team, Chase Down for A Cure. She’s even recruited other T1D’s and students at her school to walk alongside her so JDRF can get one step closer to finding a cure. Lucy was diagnosed with T1D when she was six after months of struggles to keep up her energy to hang out with her friends and constantly being thirsty. When we asked Lucy what a cure for T1D would mean to her, she said “I would be overjoyed that people would not have to struggle to manage their blood sugar and have all those finger pokes!” We agree Lucy!
