Walgreens pharmacists are specially trained experts at administering a variety of immunizations, including flu shots – a key preventive step especially important for people living with diabetes. No matter how well you manage your condition, diabetes can increase your risk for a severe case of the flu and serious complications. A flu shot is the best way to prevent the flu and its potential complications. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a flu shot for everyone with diabetes age 6 months or older.
From September 1 through October 31, 2013, peak flu shot months, Walgreens will donate $1 to JDRF per flu shot given when a customer presents the JDRF barcode/voucher or identifies themself as a JDRF supporter at any Walgreens or Duane Reade location. Walgreens is committing a minimum of $25,000 to this program with a maximum of $100,000.
