Community Meet-Ups

When I came here, I was looking for a community.
Then I realized I was helping to create one.”

Looking for an opportunity to connect with other families living with type 1 diabetes? There are currently multiple groups that meet on a regular basis and there is interest in starting more!

Our “Blue Crew” is geared towards grade school age kids living with T1D and their families.  The group selects different venues throughout the chapter on a monthly basis.  They’ve gone Trunk-or-Treating, played at parks and are planning to go bowling in December.

The Tween group currently meets in the Monmouth County area and is geared towards middle school aged kids.  They’ve had family picnics in the park, gone to the trampoline park, bowling and the arcade.

There are currently two Teen groups.  Teen Talk of Northwest New Jersey meets monthly at the Teen Center of the Horseshoe Lake Complex in Roxbury and there is a new group that is meeting in Bergen County as well (the next date and location are being announced soon).

Our Adults with T1D Networking group generally meets at the Panera Bread in Manalapan the last Tuesday of each month.  There is no meeting in December 2018, but keep an eye on our calendar of events as the 2019 dates will be posted soon!

We are also excited to share that the Toddlers with T1D is coming back to the Monmouth and Ocean county community soon!

There is also a larger community get together that is open to all ages at Get Air in Freehold on December 18, 2018. While the fundraiser is open from 3:00 – 9:00 p.m. and you may join us at any point during this time, in order to try to connect with families with children in the same age range, we encourage you come during the following times:

3:00 – 5:00 p.m.  Toddlers with T1D (ages 0-6) or Blue Crew (ages 6-10)
5:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Blue Crew (ages 6-10) and Tweens (ages 10-14)
7:00 – 9:00 p.m.  Tweens (ages 10-14) and Teens (ages 13-19)

Interested in participating in a meet-up but can’t make it to one of these locations?

The community meet-ups are driven by volunteers in our chapter. If you’d like to learn more about cultivating a group in your area or being included on the email invite list for any of these groups, contact Outreach Coordinator Gretchen Van Mater!
