Through the Youth Ambassador Program, youth leaders living with T1D engage in unique chapter activities to support the JDRF mission by inspiring chapter community members, advancing fundraising and stewarding donors.

APPLICATIONS OPEN NOVEMBER 1

 ALLOW YOUTH LEADERS TO:

  • Develop leadership skills
  • Build confidence in talking about T1D
  • Connect with other peers with T1D
  • Enhance speaking or story-telling skills
  • Feel connected to your JDRF chapter
  • Inspire other youth living with T1D

PROGRAM TIMELINE

Youth Ambassador commitment runs an entire calendar year (January – December)

YOUTH AMBASSADOR REQUIREMENTS

  • The Youth Ambassador must be between 5-18 years old (K-12 grades)
  • The Youth Ambassador must have T1D for at least 1 year
  • The Youth Ambassador must have a positive outlook on life and diabetes!
  • The Youth Ambassador must attend monthly chapter Youth Ambassador calls
  • The Youth Ambassador must receive parental permission to participate. In addition, a parent or guardian will help with the program and provide transportation to JDRF events
  • The Youth Ambassador must commit to participate for the calendar year (January – December)
  • The Youth Ambassador must volunteer a minimum of 5 hours at JDRF events or outreach programs
  • The Youth Ambassador must participate in a peer-2-peer fundraising campaign (One Walk, JDRF Ride, Team JDRF, or JDRF Your Way), volunteer at at least one fundraising event (Hope Gala or One Walk), and volunteer at at least one outreach event (TypeOneNation Summit or T1D Connections Day)

  • Register your own walk team and invite your friends and family to join your team
  • Help out at the Youth Ambassador and/or Advocacy Table to recruit new Youth Ambassadors and Advocates**
  • Encourage other T1D families to register a walk team
  • Thank You Videos (individual sponsor shout-outs)
  • Corporate Sponsor Thank You Notes
  • Corporate Sponsor Thank You Calls (post-Walk)**
  • Corporate Team Kickoff Event Speakers (come and speak/share your T1D story for companies)**
  • Share your story at family kick-offs in perspective market**
  • Course/site entertainment (e.g. kids activities, cheering on walkers, etc.)**

  • Videos recorded pre-event (sponsor thank you, Fund A Cure Video, etc.)
  • Gala pre-event set-up**
  • Volunteer the night of the gala**
    • Wear sponsored assets at Gala as part of YA Gala Sponsorship (special YA sash, button, etc.)
    • Corporate Sponsor Table Visits (YAs visit sponsor tables at Gala to thank guests in person)
  • Corporate Sponsor Thank You Notes (pre- or post-Gala)
  • Corporate Sponsor Thank You Calls (pre- or post-Gala)
  • Be part of Annual Gala Art Project (Triangle and Triad)**

  • Thank you ride posters
  • Thank you video(s)
  • Tobacco Road Marathon Volunteers – Rest Stop Volunteers**
  • Local Ride Day Volunteers**
  • Thank You Videos (individual sponsor shout-outs)
  • Corporate Sponsor Thank You Notes
  • Corporate Sponsor Thank You Calls (post-Walk)
  • Corporate Team Kickoff Event Speakers (come and speak/share your T1D story for companies)**
  • Share your story at shotgun start**

  • Cocktails for a Cure pre-event set-up**
  • Volunteer the night of the event**
    • Wear sponsored assets at Cocktails for a Cure (special YA sash, button, etc.)
    • Corporate Sponsor Table Visits (YAs visit sponsor tables at Cocktails for a Cure to thank guests in person)
  • Corporate Sponsor Thank You Notes (pre- or post-Cocktails for a Cure)
  • Corporate Sponsor Thank You Calls (pre- or post-Cocktails for a Cure)

  • Write thank you letters to vendors, sponsors, and speakers for supporting JDRF
  • Volunteer day of TON Summit*
  • Record videos to help promote registration for summit

  • Write thank you letters to vendors, sponsors, and round table facilitators for supporting JDRF
  • Volunteer day of T1D Connections Day(s)*
  • Plan out kids activities

  • Thank you notes to major donors throughout the year

  • Help at the advocacy table / help recruit advocates at the walk and summit**
  • Help relay info about advocacy at events
  • Children’s Congress – Active involvement as a youth ambassador definitely increases your likelihood of being chosen!

  • Visit your local Marshalls stores and thank the associates for their shop and give back program.

  • Visit your local Harris Teeter stores and thank the associates for their shop and Round Up program.

  • Attend quarterly National Youth Ambassador calls

  • Attend Sunday or Tuesday evening North Carolina JDRF Youth Ambassador calls

  • Attend at least 4 meetups each year 2 meetups between July and December, and 2 meetups between January and June

 

** Please note that anything with an ** next to it indicates an optional activity. All other activities listed a required by all Youth Ambassadors.** *Youth Ambassadors are allowed to choose to volunteer at T1D Connections Day(s) if they are unable to volunteer at the TypeOneNation Summit
