Team JDRF Update

in , ,

IMPORTANT UPDATE: As of March 17, the 2020 Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon will not take place this year to ensure the safety of all participants, staff, volunteers, medical professionals, security personnel, and spectators during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To all of our Team JDRF runners – we are so, so sorry this event will not take place as planned, but we have some exciting news – the Marathon is set to go virtual!

We are excited about the opportunity to take this amazing event and offer a virtual experience. Please stay in touch to hear more about the Virtual Pittsburgh Marathon Races – more information will become available in the beginning of April and we will communicate as much as possible.Ā

No matter where you are, we canā€™t wait to #MOVE with you – to END T1D! Stay tuned, stay safe – we’ll update you soon. For immediate questions, please contact Carling at cnolan@jdrf.org.

Due to recent events surrounding COVID-19 (Coronavirus), we’d like to share an update from our friends at the 2020 Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon. We will continue to share updates that we receive from the Marathon regarding Marathon Weekend so that all Team JDRF participants will stay informed and aware during this time.

STATEMENT:

“We know that many of you continue to wonder whether the 2020 DICKā€™S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon weekend of events will continue as scheduled. We know this is tough on everyone, and weā€™re continuing to move forward with our plans in the hope that the race will still happen.

Things are changing rapidly, and weā€™re getting regular updates from our partners at UPMC and the City of Pittsburgh, as well as other appropriate government entities. We hope you can understand that whether the event happens will be a matter of public health and safety.

We know that you are frustrated – and thatā€™s understandable. All of you have been training for months, and now youā€™re not confident that the event youā€™ve been working so hard for will happen. Trust us, we get it. Weā€™ve been working for more than a year to bring you the best marathon ever, and the thought of it not happening is disappointing for all of us.

Weā€™re all working tirelessly to make sure that whatever happens, youā€™ll get the best experience we can make possible. As we shared last week, IF the event doesnā€™t happen, we promise that youā€™ll get the chance to run virtually and get all of the race gear that youā€™ve rightfully earned. But if thatā€™s not what you want given this frustrating situation, we will make sure you get a refund of your registration fees. We promise to keep you all updated as new information regarding the event becomes available.

In the meantime, all we ask is that you continue to #MOVEPittsburgh. Keep running. Keep training. We hope to see you in May.”
