T1D Virtual Connections & Education

In an effort to stay connected as a community, JDRF Mid-Atlantic is excited to offer virtual meet ups and educational events and resources to support our local T1D community. We will offer T1D support and networking programs for newly diagnosed families and individuals, parents of children with T1D, and adults with T1D, as well educational sessions on research, advocacy, virtual fundraising, and more. T1D Virtual Connections Meet Up for Newly Diagnosed: 3rd Thursday of the month at 4:00 PM
Join your T1D community for a virtual meet up to connect with other newly diagnosed families and get advice and tips from experienced T1D caregivers. This casual meeting, led by JDRF outreach volunteers, will not offer medical advice but will offer laughter, ideas, and connection! Bridging the Gap – T1D Teen Connections Group: 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM
JDRF Mid-Atlantic is excited to host the “Bridging the Gap” meet-up for teens ages 13-18 with T1D. Led by young adults living with T1D, this informal meet-up is an opportunity for teens to meet and talk openly about the challenges and triumphs of living with T1D. Type 1 Diabetes Peer Support Group 
Are you living with T1D or parenting a child with T1D? Join us for an informal conversation to share information and connect with others in the T1D community. Bring questions or topics you would like to discuss. Before the Covid-19 pandemic this group met monthly at Suburban Hospital. We are now meeting virtually via Zoom. Roanoke Area T1D Support Group (IN-PERSON): 4th Thursday of the month at 6:00 PM
This support group is starting monthly meetings at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church and is open to anyone living with or affected by T1D. Youth activities and childcare are available. For more information, contact Keira Realmuto at groupjdrf1@gmail.com or click here for more information.

2022 TypeOneNation Summits
Join your T1D community for a morning of education and networking at our reimagined TypeOneNation Summits. These half-day programs will feature interactive breakout sessions and vendor exhibits. The educational program and conversations will be geared toward an adult audience; child care is not available. All attendees will be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test to enter the event. The events are free to attend and registration will open in mid-January. Teen Transitions & Off To College Webinar: Sunday, March 20 at 10:00AM EST
The Johns Hopkins Pediatric Diabetes Center and JDRF invite high school students living with diabetes and their caregivers/parents to this unique opportunity to learn about and discuss the many facets of the “teen transition years,” including going off to college and transitioning from pediatric to adult diabetes care. Ask the Therapist Virtual Series: 1st Wednesday of the month at 11:00 AM ET / 8:00 AM PT
Joanne Robb, a marriage and family therapist and mother of three – two of whom live with T1D – wants to help families gain the skills and knowledge they need to address the mental health impact and toll T1D takes on the entire family. Bring your questions and meet others in the T1D community for this informal call. Register here.
