Diabetes Resource Nurses to Talk to Teens About T1D Advocacy

in ,

You read all about Youth Ambassador Zoe’s type 1 diabetes (T1D) story and why she was inspired to create T1D Teen Time, a support group just for teens living with T1D.

One common experience that has already been shared in every T1D Teen Time so far is frustration regarding communicating one’s T1D needs to teachers, coaches and other figures of authority.

So join YA Zoe for a conversation with Dianne Chorny and Kelly Driver, the Diabetes Resource Nurses for Colorado School Districts Jefferson County and Douglas County, respectively.

As District Diabetes Resource Nurses (DRNs), Dianne and Kelly provide consultations to school nurses, health aides and other school staff on all things diabetes relevant to students living with the disease in their districts. As DRNs, Dianne and Kelly are also members of the nonprofit, Diabetes Resource Nurses of Colorado, Inc., whose mission is “to ensure safe, evidence-based care for children with diabetes in Colorado schools and childcare settings.” The DRNs of Colorado, Inc. connects highly qualified school nurses and public health nurses to school districts throughout Colorado to provide consultations and resources to support standardized health services for children living with diabetes.

Hear from Dianne and Kelly at the next T1D Teen Time as they provide practical advice answering the question, “How do I advocate for myself, as a teen, in settings where people question my T1D needs?”

Are you looking for ways to give your teen with T1D opportunities to become more independent? You won’t want to miss this conversation! Register for free here, and join us on Sunday, June 25, at 5pm MT.
