The 2023 Utah TypeOneNation Summit is officially NEXT MONTH! We are so excited to gather with the Utah type 1 diabetes (T1D) community to celebrate National Diabetes Awareness Month (NDAM), learn about how JDRF serves the greater T1D community, and hear from leaders speaking on topics affecting all ages and stages of life with T1D.

We are also proud to present our keynote speaker, Anastasia Albanese-O’Neill, Ph.D., APRN, CDCES, JDRF’s Director of Community Screening and Clinical Trials Education!

Dr. Albanese-Oā€™Neill transitioned to a career in diabetes care, education, and research in 2008 after her daughter was diagnosed with T1D at 16 months old. As Director of Community Screening and Clinical Trials Education at JDRF, she contributes to efforts to delay, prevent, and ultimately cure T1D. She formerly served as Director of Diabetes Education and Clinic Operations in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Florida (UF), where she was a faculty member in the College of Medicine and maintained an active research portfolio and clinical practice.

As a clinician scientist at UF, Dr. Albanese-Oā€™Neill was the site principal investigator on studies including FLAIR, SENCE, and the T1D Exchange Quality Improvement Collaborative. She has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles on diabetes education, quality improvement, and diabetes technology in leading journals such as Diabetes Care; Pediatric Diabetes; and Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics. She has given hundreds of invited podium and keynote presentations at local, state, national, and international conferences and events.

Dr. Albanese-Oā€™Neill has been a passionate diabetes advocate since 2002, and in this capacity, has appeared at Congressional hearings, the White House, and in the Florida legislature. She is the volunteer founder and board chair of a Florida-based diabetes education non-profit, Diabetes Toolkit.

Prior to working in diabetes care, Dr. Albanese-Oā€™Neill was the highest-ranking executive for Southwest Airlines in southern California, where she oversaw the companyā€™s local marketing; public affairs; and community and media relations.

Dr. Albanese-Oā€™Neill was chosen as the 2023 Diabetes Care and Education Specialist of the Year by the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES) and a 2018 ā€œPerson to Know in Diabetesā€ by Diabetes Forecast.

She plans to retire as soon as a cure for T1D is discovered, but not a moment earlier.

Dr. Albanese-O’Neill’s keynote presentation at TypeOneNation Summit will dive into the latest and greatest updates on JDRF’s research advancements and why we are more hopeful than we’ve ever been about the future of life with T1D.

Join us at TypeOneNation on Saturday, November 11 at the Megaplex Theatres in Sandy, UT!
