Coronavirus and T1D: What You Should Know

in

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak is an emerging and rapidly evolving situation. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) characterized the COVID-19 outbreak as a pandemic.

The immediate risk of being exposed to COVID-19 in the United States is thought to be low as the disease is not yet widespread in most communities.

Because COVID-19 and similar viral illnesses—such as the flu—can pose a serious risk for people with T1D, JDRF advises members of our community to take extra precautions to remain healthy.

The new Coronvirus and T1D page on jdrf.org lists out the five main things you need to know about managing T1D and a viral illness, as well as basic information about COVID-19—including how to best protect yourself.

The page will be updated as the situation develops and as new information that is relevant to our T1D community becomes available.
